Our Mission

Creating access. Building pathways. Opening possibilities.

Next Play Collective expands access to sports, recreation, leadership, and developmental opportunities for young people across Kern County.

We work to reduce barriers to participation while creating pathways for young people to explore their interests, develop skills, serve their communities, build relationships, and discover what might come next.

Because access isn't only about getting through the door.

It's about having somewhere to go once you're inside.

Cost matters.

Registration fees, uniforms, equipment, transportation, and other expenses can determine whether a young person gets to participate at all.

But financial barriers aren't the only barriers.

Sometimes the opportunity doesn't exist nearby. Sometimes a family doesn't know where to start. Sometimes a young person needs encouragement, a connection, a mentor, or simply someone willing to give them a chance.

That's why our approach to access goes beyond making programs affordable

We work to create opportunities, build partnerships, connect resources, and develop pathways that help young people participate in experiences that may otherwise feel out of reach.

Access means more than being invited. It means having a real opportunity to participate.

WHAT DOES “NEXT PLAY” MEAN?

A next play isn't one specific destination.

It might be joining a team for the first time.

Trying a sport or activity you've never had access to before.

Becoming a referee.

Coaching younger athletes.

Leading a community service project.

Earning a certification.

Discovering a career you didn't know existed.

Finding mentors.

Building confidence.

Giving back to your community.

Or simply discovering something you're good at and wanting to see where it takes you.

We don't define success for young people. We work to make sure opportunity is available when they're ready for whatever comes next.
